These Malachite Turtles were hand carved in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Turtles are symbols of grounding, pacing, persistence and determination. The designs seen in the Malachite are formed by microscopic layers of different sized crystals growing on top of each other. A copper ore mineral, Malachite is known to have been mined by Egyptians as early as 4000 B.C.
